It was a close call.
On a bight Saturday afternoon, everything was going nice and sweet, i never saw it coming.
I shouldn't have made the switch, shouldn't have braced that shot, or should i?
Nonetheless, it was a contact sport, a physical game, the risk were obvious, it was an accident.
None is to blame, it was just unfortunate.
This was what happen, after a few great preceding games, i decided to take the back seat and give others a chance to strike.
Then, it started.
I sensed danger maybe near as i saw the rolling juggernaut possess the ball.
Fingers were crossed that they would tackle the ball away, but i knew the chances were slim.
He breached the defense line easily and the before i knew it, the charging momentum was gunning for the space behind me.
Two options flashed through my mind, to avoid the cannon ball, let in the goal and pass through physically unscattered or to give it my best and brace a blocking attempt.
Obvious, i had chosen the latter leaving me "destroyed".
I flung myself towards the impact unexpecting it to go curling up and aiming straight for my right eye.
Bam.
It was over in less than a second.
I was on the floor with both hands over my eyes.
All i could see was bright lights, glaring flashes contrasting to the pitch darkness one sees when the eyes are shut.
As i struggled to open my eyes a moment later, i was shocked to see blurry images but relieved to be at least able to see.
Floaters(go google it if u want)were spinning around every corner in my field of vision in such numbers i didn't knew was possible.
Went to toilet peeled off my contacts to discover that, fortunately, it was because my contacts was "whacked" out of position that resulted in the blurry vision.
This was like an episode of "Whacked out sports" that i never imagined would happen to me.
Of course, my wonderful friends were at my aide as usual and i am so glad i have such great friends.
Later on, i went home, kept quiet about it and tried to sleep over it.
However, the symptoms seemed to get worst as nightfall and this dark shadow almost blinding the lower half of my vision was prevalent.
So after mom come home, i told her about it and re-affirmed my decision to go see a doctor.
Of course, i did get the usual "earth shakering" treatment due to her prejudice against football and other "high risk" sports.
Slipped out, made my way to the doc on my own to have some peace.
Got to the clinic waited for half an hour got my turn and i got bounced.
The general practitioner claimed that he do not have the necessary equipments to check the eye at his clinic and advice me to go to the hospital straight as the eye is a very important organ in his point of view.
Of course the eye is a very important organ, like dur!, who doesn't want their eyes?
In fact, not only is the eye, all parts of the entire human body are utmost essential, who would go "hahaha please chop this part of me off, i dont want it" ?
Anyway, i have been at the pink of health for so long and i am so pissed off i broke my streak. Visiting a clinic!!!
Then, i called mom and dad, told them about what the gp said and they came to fetch me to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Eff, 1st time,1st time i am going to the hospital as patient.
What the.
Hospital is always such a morbid and scary place that i dread visiting, never would i thought that this day would come.
Dam it.
And where was i heading? The best part of it.
The Accident n Emergency department, as that was the only place available at this hour.
Claiming that i wasn't at all afraid of my condition would be a huge lie, obviously anyone in this state would be scared like sheet, who wants to lose their sight or even fall ill?
Going to the hospital at the best time, during the influx of the H1N1.
Here comes the red tape and also the surmounting risk.
Wore a mask, see how it comes back to me? just a few weeks ago i was laughing at people wearing mask and now its my turn, got in a queue where people had to be one meter apart.
We had to stand in this yellow boxes which were obviously apart to separate the patients.
This was like throwing myself into a sea of sharks, going to AnE of ttsh what are the chances of meeting a H1N1 patient?
The only relieving thing was that this was not the SARS period.
After that, the rest was pretty "polyclinic".
Bureaucracy ran the place.
There were numerous counters or stations one had to pass through before the "main course", registration, pre-examination, documentation, blar blar blar.
And whats there no fill the void between stations?
Nothing, u just wait and wait and wait.
Anyway, i got there at 11pm and it was way past midnight before i actually see the eye doctor.
The place though was scary, was not as scary as i foresaw.
No blood, no hysterical patients, no severed limbs that sort.
Yucks, simply thinking about makes me uneasy.
Got into the eye and ENT department, the operation theater was just behind a partition, a moderately low wall, the surgical lamps were visible, so was part of the bed, how scary was that?
I was shown into a room where the eye doctor was.
The lights were dimmed and there was this machine like thing in the center.
Doc dripped some stuff into my eye to dilate the pupil and then shown bright light into my eye to proceed with the examination.
After a very tiring process, she said there were bleeding and bruise in the eye and that was what caused the symptoms.
Banned me from sports (indefinitely until i completely recover) , and dished me a 7 day mc.
This was the second time i got a 7day mc, unbelievable how can mc be so long?
Told me not to move about too much to prevent the bleeding from spreading, cause once it spreads to the whole eye, it was be absolute darkness for me.
I was like shit!
I just told Mr chong i would take my nafpa test the coming tues and he even indirectly told me not to fall sick, now i am so dead, and then there is the upcoming will run on saturday. Noooo, i wanna runnn......
Sian, second time i am skipping nafpa due to injuries, now when will i be able to take it?
Tsk.
Shouldn't have dragged the test, but that is if i could predict the injuries....
Back to the story, after all that stuff i was discharged and i got home at 3am!
The next day, i woke up with lots of floaters and i was actually quite taken a back.
Thought of making another visit as she had advised me to if my condition worsen, but was hesitant.
Fortunately, my condition got better over the next couple of days.
The floaters got lighter and slowly vanished bit by bit.
Went for a subsequent check up on tuesday and i was glad to hear that the bruise was gone and there were no tears behind it.
But there was still bleeding and i had to keep going for checks until i completely recover. Sian.
There was another check up today too and one coming next wednesday, and the check ups were dreaded.
They were at ttsh eye clinic and the patients there were by the hordes.
2 to 3 hours each time and most of the time was spent waiting and waiting.
But the time after was great, as i had lunch at square 2, get to eat all the good food at no cost as my mom was with me.
Yumm!
1 week of medical leave, of cos i rested but i did study a bit too.
I cant afford to lag behind if a am to own the rest.
Of cos, thanks to all my friends who sent their well wishes.
I am getting well soon!
Hopefully ASAP!
I wanna run, i wanna be fit again, i am getting fat!
Noooo.
Well, i am still seeing floaters although only a comparatively minute few.
PS, the above incident had happened a week ago on sat, 25 july.
Thats all for this post.
See ya soon.
Scott signs off.
