I wanna wake up one day and be able to tell the whole world.

But sadly, that....just a dream...just like how nelly sang.
However, i'm glad i woke up at home, not in a bunk, not to fall in.
I'm a insp not a 2lt and what i do is not to shout at men, nor issue punishments to them.
I don't book-in, i go to work.
And i work in the office, under the air-con with a jacket on, not under the sun with my helmet on.
I may detest the men in blue for taking the "fun and adventure" out of my NS life and from time to time miss and wish i could be in green, but eventually I would conclude, i got the better end of the deal.
What do you learn in army?
To shout at people, live and survive in the jungle,to play with arms and explosive, to do drills?
These are all useless in real life.
And if one tells me, army hones your leadership.
That will just be bullshit.
Try exercising that kind of "leadership" in real life, one will not be able to pull it off.
Cos in the civilian world, we live in the urban jungle, and the war rages in the office.
Its silent, stealthy and swift.
The arrows fly through the lan cables and pounce at you as you open your mailbox, leaving your severely wound and you won't see it coming.
There are conspiracies, backstabbing, boot-licking and more.
But in short, they call these "office politics".
And to win the game, you must be a master of this art.
I'm sure i made this sound very sinister, but this is the truth just in a rather ominous light.
The fact that we see sky scrappers filled with offices everywhere in Singapore suggest that eventually the majority of us will end up working in an office.
Hence, its crucial to learn "the ways of an office" and its beneficial to have a head start.
Let me share some stuff i learnt in the past few months.
Here, you are given the rank but not the power and authority.
Hence, thats is what you have to work for and achieve.
Only by proving yourself and associating yourself with the "higher ups" will your words carry more weight and will people take you seriously.
Actually, it all very simple.
Because there is a disease in this foarce.
People here don't give a sh*t about anything.
Thus, one just needs to put in some effort, be willing to offer more than required, go the extra mile, be bothered about things and most importantly pay attention to details.
In many occasions, things screw up because the person doing can't be bothered about it.
He/She just wanna get it done and move one, thus, some flaws will be overlooked.
Hence, the victor will be the one who can spot these flaws.
And this trait is what i have spotted in many commanders.
Most(if not all the) commanders holding ranks of supt and above are known to be fussy and picky, feared and somewhat hated by their subordinates.
Why?
Because these people have an eye for detail, to point out flaws and get it rectified which equates to additional work for all, while their subordinates have the "I just wanna get this shit done and wanna go home" mentality.
Hence, these subordinates will never become the commander and they will stay with their "I just wanna go home/ go slack" rank.
Coincidentally, this is consistent with my work principle/ ethics.
If you wanna do something, you give your best.
Anything less, its better off not doing.
Why waste the effort producing a sloppy piece of work?
Since you have began, just go all the way.
A sloppy piece of work can be easily seen in its tardiness, and it reflects a lack of interest and the nonchalant attitude of the producer.
A good piece of work transcends its flaws, it represents the sincerity of the author to give nothing but the best he could to the receiving end.
Hence, work is not done if one can still spot the loopholes in it.
Turning a blind eye them doesn't solve the problem, it reflects being delusional.
I can't accept it if i know that there is something wrong but there is nothing done about it.
There will be this itching feeling in my heart telling me, "no you have to go correct it".
This leads to something called taking the initiative.
The common mindset would be, "Something is not right, hmmm, nevermind since everyone can live with it so can I, someone will eventually do something about it, i wouldn't need to bother."
"Yeah, I cant be bothered, I got better things to do like to enjoy myself, some others can take on this job."
Therefore, the one who takes the lead to rectify the flaw in the system easily stands out from the rest.
I made this sound very challenging, but its all derived from one unsophisticated uncomplicated aspect.
Attitude.
Adopting a industrious attitude sums it all.
Of cause, there is another "trick" i left out.
Something i learned from tracom.
Never, never ever let your work go unseen.
If you do, all the hard work and effort will simply go down the drain, it would be for nothing.
Stay true to oneself, don't be afraid to work hard, don't be swayed by what others may say, give your best and your results and character will speak for you.
People who claim that you are a "wa-yang king" or boot-licker, they can say all they want and they will probably say that cos they are jealous and they can't do as well, or perhaps you are indeed a suck-up b*tch.
But if you aren't one, people can and will realise that you are genuine and they will eventually change their impression of you.
In the course of being diligent, pro-active and non-lackadaisical, one will obviously please one's superiors with the outstanding quality of work produced and as a result gain favour.
Thus, this is not an attempt to fawn or coax your superiors, rather its the rewards of one's labour.
I'm done with my piece.
Now to derail form the topic.
I saw the advertisement sticker/poster on the bus on my way to work today, I analysed it and i thought, wow this was ingenuous.
This sticker like thing has a multitude of advantages, from the outside of the bus one(the intended audience) sees the advert very clearly.
However, from the inside one can see little holes many of them arranged in a regular fashion, the sticker like poster is made up of these holes, hence, light can pass through and the people inside can also have a clear view of whats outside the bus.
As these holes allow light to pass through, sunlight can easily enter and light up the bus in the process.
Thus, this is an innovation to allow adverts on buses without limiting the original functions of the bus' design(clear windows and all).
It works on this visual "wonder" that our eyes(or brains to be exact) will choose not to see(interpret) the holes but try to make a picture out of the remaining colours.
From the inside, its similar to those black glasses with holes in the market, just that this doesn't "promise" to improve your eyesight.
And i was also thinking, how good would it be if i had a smartphone.
Then i would be able capture all these thoughts here on the go, while its "fresh".
But then again, maybe its also well to blog at the end of the day, when its peaceful and there is time to reconsider my points of view.
This enables opportunities to receive differing insights throughout the course of the day.
I still want a Smart phone very badly though.
I am unamused with being stuck with a 1G phone while envying others with iphone and whatnot daily.
