I made two very sudden and unexpected decisions on this day(14/12/2009).
I cant believe how rash i could be.
It must be the influence of the shopaholic in me, i just buy whatever i like.
But this two wasn't about shopping.
They were something else.
Let me start with job.
I sent out 3 resumes online at 6+am in the morning a day after i came back from the chalet as i had so much post-chalet sleep that i couldn't sleep anymore.
And at 8+am, which was like the beginning of office hour, i got a phone call!
WOW!
I was expecting to wait for a few days or up to a week.
But no, it was 2 hours and i couldn't believe it.
My past experience in looking for a job took weeks.
Anyway, this was an agent(i sent out resumes to agencies) and she told me about this job which was too good to be true.
$58 per day, home-based telephone surveyor, which rarely includes a few home visits and it only requires a minimum of 2 hours a day.
Have to hit a quota of 16 phone calls per day, blah blah blah, which seemed rather easy as the survey was supposed to be compulsory(by law).
How nice was that?
So i took it immediately.
And on that very same day, i was told i had to go down for inteviews.
A few hours later, i got another call, this was from another agency and the guy was offering me a job too.
I thought, hey, this was my lucky day.
So i scheduled an interview with him(on the next day) since the former said the job only requires 2 hours or more, i could do with more money.
So on that very day, i went for the interviews for my first job offer, i was told to go home and wait for the results and my agent will contact me.
I went shopping with ck and it was past office hours when i still had not receive any call, so i thought i was done for but just when i thought it was over, the call came in.
The agent one the other end of the line tried to be funny and feigned to be unaware initially, lol, but she revealed that i got the job shortly after.
Anyway, i was so thrilled by the news that i decided to reward myself with a "pre-work" present by buying an armani exchange tee. =)
Oh, and i decided to cancel the other interview too.
One that same night, i stopped by a gym call FitnessFirst at the basement of amk hub to enquire about their rates.
The receptionist were unable to divulge the membership price over the counter and referred me to one of their membership consultants instead.
It was a trap, and i fell for it.
I agreed, and proceed to allow myself to be psycho-ed by the sweet talker they got me, where in one instance she slashed the joining fee of $250 to $22 and claimed that this was a one day offer, i could not get that promotion if i came back tmr.
Thus, on the spur of the moment, i agreed to paying over $200 for some gym membership until the end of this month.
"Handle your impulsivity", it was one of those act serious slogans srjc promoted along with the Habits @ sr campaign aimed at creating a "goody-goody" facade at sr.
Anyway, i did not buy much of these crappish, erm, what do they call that...values?...i donno they were trying to psycho us into following.
They had posters all around the school, one in each classroom, that was the extent they went to promote this student development thing, plus some "high" ranking teachers will also try to inculcate them into the lessons from time to time.
Haha, but i chose what i wanted to learn and obviously this line was not one of it.
That differentiates someone with brains and one with a sponge in his skull.
The one with a sponge absorbs passively without questioning and follows blindly, while the one which can think(which is what differentiates humans from animals) practice discernment during the learning process.
Nonetheless, i bought the membership on the spot!
Which only seem to make me appear to be very very stupid after all these trash talk, what an irony.
But was i really cheated?
I certainly did not felt so after i took a tour around the gym and tried the facilities there a few days later.
The next paragraph will be delicate to the astounding marvel of my gym, so please read with discretion.
Ok, here is what my membership entailed.
I am free to visit the gym for as long as i like and as many times i like as long as they are open, which is from 6am to 10pm daily.
There is a lounge area where there are sofas, newspapers, magazine, coffee, tea, soft drinks at free flow.
I will be provided with towels, one for sweat and one for bathing when i enter for the day, and upon leaving obviously i just return it to them.
The treadmill area, which has the "bicycle" machine too faces 7 flatscreen lcd tv panels mounted on the wall, each featuring a different channel.
It ranges from mediacorp channels to even mtv and espn, and there are audio points on the treadmill machine for users to plugin their headset or ear-piece to listen to the programmes on any of the 7 tv sets.
It all boils down to making running, which was perceived to be torturous, very painless and enjoyable.
Plus, needless to say, the whole place is air-conditioned.
Next, i move on to the weights machines, the special thing here was that most of the machines had this extra gadget attached to it which counts the number of reps the user did.
So, it saves the user the hassle of counting how many they had done amidst their struggle to lift the weights.
Following that, there are also these 2 huge rooms for mass exercise, one was for yoga and another for other aerobic exercises.
It comes free with the membership and there are numerous classes to attend daily.
Lastly, i love the changing rooms!!!
The whole place looks very luxurious, there is this whole stretch of oak lockers(i hope they are) greeting you when u enter.
And the lockers were much larger than the 20cent lockers u get at public gyms(lol), where there is a shoe slot and hangers inside each locker.
Don't have to worry about the key as there is a pin on it to pin it to your sweat towel.
The most impressing thing was that the shower rooms had shampoo, conditioner and shower foam in each cubical.
Regretfully, i have yet to use the shower facilities till this day as the gym was only a 10mins walk away from my home and i dont feel a need to bathe there.
Oh, and there are also private changing rooms around to change after bath and also this "make-up" table thing where there is a huge mirror mounted above this tabletop which had tissues, cotton buds and i donno what the rest are.
Everything there is sufficient for every metrosexual need.
Up till this day, i have been there a couple of times and i have had my orientation session with a personal trainer.
My membership gives me 2 free orientation sessions with a personal trainer, permanent one to one sessions are available too but that on a separate bill.
He was very friendly and he set me a routine which i could follow up on my own.
So at the end of the day, i did not think my money was wasted, although i have to admit the price was still quite steep.
Nonetheless, i only intend to join it until the end of january as i am enlisting in feb.
The point of joining a gym was so that i could have motivation to exercise(cos i paid for it, i have to go), if not i will stay home, be a couch potato and get very unfit when i enlist.
Another reason was also to bulk up(who doesn't wants to?), besides maintaining my fitness.
Anyway, joining one of these "private" gym has also broaden my horizon.
I have read about how career professionals spend a fortune on premium gym membership, but i have never had the chance to witness what that was all about.
Now, i got to experience it first hand and it really puts the "public"(community centre, sports council what ever) gyms to shy in comparison.
There is no queues at the machines here, and u will not get bounced if u do not bring a towel as they provide u with one.
Fantastic.
I am loving all of these.
Finally, i bring closure to this post.
As the title was job and gym, i would end here.
A new topic on a new post.
Bye bye.
Scott signs off.
